Dawn Series Furniture: A Modern Interpretation of Chinese Tradition Honored at A' Design Award 2025

The "Dawn" furniture series, designed by Wei Jingye and team, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture category for 2025. Drawing inspiration from the soft hues and calmness of morning light, the series reimagines the classic Chinese round chair with a contemporary twist. The collection, which includes a table and chair, was first displayed at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Shenyang in June 2024, following a six-month design process that began in January of the same year.

What sets Dawn apart is its harmonious blend of traditional and modern elements. The furniture features a support structure crafted from solid wood using CNC technology, combined with a 3D printed plastic body in a refreshing light blue. This juxtaposition of materials not only pays homage to Chinese heritage but also introduces a modern, agile aesthetic. The ergonomic design of the armrest and backrest enhances user comfort, making the set ideal for leisure activities such as reading, tea drinking, or relaxation.

The innovative plug-in assembly structure allows for easy transportation and flexible shaping, while the use of both machine cutting and hand polishing ensures each piece is both sturdy and refined. The Dawn series exemplifies how historical forms can be revitalized through new technologies, offering a poetic and tranquil presence in any interior. The award recognizes not only the technical and creative excellence of the design but also its contribution to improving quality of life and advancing the field of contemporary furniture.
