Wei Jingye's Mallarme children's furniture series, inspired by insert toys and featuring a unique plug-in assembly with solid wood and 3D printed parts, has been awarded the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award 2025 in Shenyang, China, recognizing its creative approach to multifunctional, child-friendly furniture with integrated storage solutions.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Mallarme children's furniture collection, designed by Wei Jingye and team, has been honored with the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award 2025 for its inventive approach to children's furniture. Drawing inspiration from childhood insert toys, the Mallarme series allows various furniture parts to be assembled in a plug-in manner, transforming the process of putting furniture together into an engaging, playful experience for children and parents alike. The series stands out for its harmonious contrast between natural solid wood and brightly colored, highly saturated plastic elements, creating a distinctly childlike and inviting aesthetic.
Each piece in the Mallarme collection is constructed using a combination of machine-cut, hand-polished solid wood and advanced 3D printing technology. The supporting wooden structures are precisely slotted to connect seamlessly with 3D printed components, which not only serve as structural elements but also provide integrated storage spaces for books, toys, and other children's items. This thoughtful design addresses the common challenge of organizing children's belongings while maintaining a comfortable and relaxed environment for leisure and play.
Developed in Shenyang from March to June 2024 and showcased at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts Museum, the Mallarme series reflects extensive research into the versatility and multifunctionality of children's furniture. The design team overcame significant creative and technical challenges to maximize storage capacity without compromising comfort or aesthetics. The result is a modular, easily transportable furniture system that encourages creativity, supports daily activities, and brings joy to children's spaces. The Mallarme series exemplifies how innovative design can enhance quality of life and foster imaginative play.
