Macau, China - June 2024 - Lampo Leong's innovative art installation "Cheers To Macau" has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design for 2025, celebrating its unique blend of cultural heritage, environmental consciousness, and sculptural artistry inspired by Macau's rich East-West legacy.

Lampo Leong's "Cheers To Macau" transforms the everyday aluminum beer can into a striking work of art by reimagining it as crumpled porcelain, symbolizing Macau's unique cultural fusion and modern environmental awareness. Drawing inspiration from the city's historic crossroads of East and West, the installation incorporates iconic motifs such as the Ruins of St. Paul's, intricate Portuguese tile patterns, and bilingual text in Chinese and English. The dynamic gold accents and expressive Chinese calligraphy, inspired by the lotus flower, further enrich the visual narrative, blending traditional Chinese art with the energy of Abstract Expressionism.
Created in Macau between 2023 and 2024, "Cheers To Macau" was realized as a three-dimensional sculptural form in porcelain, with flexible display options ranging from wall-mounted installations to acrylic box framing. The project has garnered international acclaim, exhibiting at the Macao Contemporary Art Center and receiving prestigious honors, including the 100 Best Annual in Creative Quarterly International Art competition (New York), Red Dot Award: Best of the Best (Berlin), and Silver Award at the Quanzhou Zayton Cup International Design Competition (China).
The conceptual depth of the work is underscored by its thoughtful integration of historical and cultural references. The wild cursive calligraphy features ancient Chinese poetry centered on the lotus, while faded text draws from Sun Yat-sen's influential writings, reflecting the ideals of Chinese thinkers during Macau's transformative late Qing Dynasty period. By metamorphosing Western beer cans into Jingdezhen blue-and-white porcelain, Leong's installation not only highlights Macau's four-century blend of Chinese and Western cultures but also promotes Macau Beer through a compelling visual narrative that bridges art, history, and industry.
