"Tachi" Sideboard by Yilmaz Dogan: A Fusion of Japanese Sword Aesthetics and Contemporary Design Excellence

Yilmaz Dogan's latest creation, the "Tachi" sideboard, has captured international acclaim by winning the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2025. Drawing inspiration from the tachi, a revered medieval Japanese sword known for its deep, powerful cuts and status symbolism among samurai, Dogan's sideboard translates this historical legacy into a striking piece of contemporary furniture. Designed and meticulously crafted in Ankara, "Tachi" stands as a testament to the seamless integration of cultural heritage and modern design.

The "Tachi" sideboard distinguishes itself through its sculptural surface, featuring dynamic intersecting lines that evoke the energy and movement of sword cuts. These sharp, CNC-cut lacquered wood panels create a play of light and shadow, delivering a bold visual impact from every angle. Complemented by brass-coated metal legs that reinforce the geometric integrity of the piece, the design achieves a harmonious balance between complexity and elegance. A custom-engineered sliding door mechanism ensures seamless alignment, while an innovative internal support structure maintains stability and durability.
