Renowned designer Paul Robb unveils Monk, a harmoniously balanced font family that seamlessly integrates Latin and Arabic typefaces, offering a unique blend of geometric elegance and historical inspiration.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Paul Robb introduces Monk, a multi-language geometric font family that seamlessly integrates Latin and Arabic typefaces. Inspired by the Benedictine and Franciscan writing, Monk offers a harmonious balance between the two languages, featuring shared counters, stem thickness, and curved forms. The font family was designed and produced in Fontographer, resulting in a True Type and Open Source Font.
Monk's unique properties lie in its ability to maintain balanced harmony and grace between Arabic and Latin, with a distinct direction of the ductus, wide overall stance, and large open counters contributing to its exceptional legibility. The font's design process was driven by the concept of shared geometry, allowing for seamless integration of Western words within Arabic text.
The Monk project commenced in 2017 and concluded in September 2018 in Perugia, Italy. Rooted in extensive research on ancient texts from Umbria in central Italy, Monk's design was a modern interpretation of historical forms, creating repeatable geometric curves for both Latin and Arabic fonts.
