Beijing-based designer Wang Yuchen and team have been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for Neuro X, an interactive focus training toy that uses EEG signals and ferrofluid to help children develop attention skills through playful, thought-driven interaction.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Neuro X, developed by Wang Yuchen alongside Liu Qinyang and Wang Xuanzheng, is a groundbreaking attention training toy designed to support children's cognitive development. Utilizing a non-invasive EEG headband and a set of modular "N-blocks," Neuro X captures brainwave signals and translates them into mesmerizing ferrofluid movements, creating a direct, thought-driven interaction. This innovative approach merges neuroscience, art, and technology, providing an engaging and emotionally supportive tool for children aged five and up to improve their focus in a fun, non-judgmental environment.
The inspiration for Neuro X arose from observing the curiosity of children, particularly the designer's younger sister, when interacting with ferrofluid. The team sought to harness this fascination, crafting a narrative connection between users and the material. By integrating a commercial TGAM module, the device collects EEG data and wirelessly communicates with the N-blocks, which then adjust their electromagnetic fields to animate the ferrofluid. The result is a unique, safe, and customizable experience that encourages sustained attention and rewards progress with increasingly dynamic visual feedback.
Launched in Hangzhou in April 2023 and completed in Beijing by August 2024, Neuro X has already received significant recognition, including the second prize at the Beijing division of the China International University Innovation Competition and multiple international design awards. The project's research-driven design process involved expert consultations and user testing, ensuring both scientific validity and child-friendliness. With its patented technology and commitment to affordability, Neuro X stands out as a pioneering educational tool that bridges the gap between play and cognitive development, making a meaningful contribution to the field of edutainment.
