GOOD PLACE has completed the new Goldwin Headquarters in Tokyo, a 6,000-square-meter office space inspired by nature and Japanese craftsmanship, earning the Silver A' Design Award 2025 for its creative integration of traditional techniques, natural materials, and flexible work environments.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GOOD PLACE has unveiled the Goldwin Headquarters in Tokyo, a project that redefines office interiors by blending traditional Japanese techniques with modern minimalism. Completed between March 2023 and May 2024, the six-floor, 6,000-square-meter headquarters serves as a dynamic hub for Goldwin, the company behind global brands like The North Face. The design draws on three core brand concepts-"Life with Nature," "Do More with Less," and "Dedication to Detail"-to create a unified space that fosters creativity, communication, and a strong connection to the natural environment.
Each floor of the headquarters is uniquely composed, reflecting the metaphor of a "strongly growing tree." The design incorporates natural materials throughout, such as rammed earth, mud walls, and wood, alongside traditional plastering techniques. These elements not only emphasize authenticity and respect for craftsmanship but also create a seamless transition between the interior and the surrounding landscape. The entrance features textured rammed earth and irregular natural stones, while upper floors offer minimalist spaces with exposed base materials and adaptable furnishings, supporting a range of work styles and creative collaboration.
GOOD PLACE's approach involved extensive research, including site visits and environmental studies, to ensure the design resonated with Goldwin's philosophy and the local context. The project overcame significant challenges, such as the effective use of non-uniform natural materials and the integration of over 80% reused furniture, all while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. The result is an office that not only supports the diverse needs of Goldwin's employees but also communicates the brand's values to the wider community through its prominent location on Aoyama Street. This achievement has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award 2025, highlighting the project's outstanding creativity, technical excellence, and innovative spirit.
