Hangzhou-based designer Zhou Leijing and her team have been honored with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 for Teli Tiee, a multifunctional story player that fosters meaningful interaction between children and the elderly by blending AI technology, emotional design, and creative storytelling in a safe, user-friendly device.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Teli Tiee, designed by Zhou Leijing and her team in Hangzhou, China, has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 in the Baby, Kids and Children's Products category. Developed between April and August 2023, Teli Tiee addresses the growing need for effective communication between generations in modern families. The device leverages emotional and inclusive design principles, enabling the elderly to reminisce and share stories while engaging children in imaginative, illustrated narratives.
The multifunctional player features three types of story element blocks that, when combined, generate diverse stories from both system presets and those shared or co-created by users. Utilizing AI, Teli Tiee processes recorded stories and transforms them into illustrated picture-book experiences, making storytelling accessible and engaging for all ages. The intuitive interface allows users to start the device, select or record stories, and seamlessly upload them to a shared database, fostering creativity and connection.
Constructed from safe plastic and wood, Teli Tiee incorporates NFC, an electronic screen, Bluetooth, and other modules to ensure robust functionality and child safety. The design process involved extensive research, including interviews and observations with both elderly and children, to understand their communication needs and preferences. Overcoming the challenge of integrating advanced AI technology while maintaining user-friendliness for all ages, Teli Tiee stands out as a practical, innovative solution for intergenerational bonding and educational play.
