Discover the Inspiration and Innovation Behind the Element Lamp
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jae Choi's Element lamp draws inspiration from laboratory equipment, seamlessly blending functionality with an industrial aesthetic. The design allows for easy height and angle adjustments, catering to both professional and personal spaces.
Constructed from steel components shaped by wire forming, laser-cutting, and metal spinning, the lamp boasts a powder-coated finish for durability. The iterative testing of prototypes refined the design, showcasing the seamless integration of manufacturing techniques.
The Element lamp measures 165mm in width, 165mm in depth, and 420mm in height, making it a versatile addition to diverse environments.
The interaction with the Element lamp is designed for simplicity. By incorporating a knob for height adjustments and a swivel feature for angle modifications, users can customize lighting to their needs easily.
The project commenced in March 2022 in Providence, Rhode Island, and concluded in February 2023. The research behind the Element lamp explored integrating laboratory equipment functionality into lighting design, showcasing how design-inspired research can transform into real-life applications.
The creative challenge in developing the Element lamp involved precise wire forming and laser-cutting alignment. Through closely collaborating with the manufacturing team and iterative testing, the team managed to refine the techniques and overcome these obstacles.
Element was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2024 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
