Akira Nakagomi introduces Object, a splash-proof partition set designed to add color and vitality to living spaces, inspired by the impact of Covid-19.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Akira Nakagomi presents Object, a splash-proof partition set designed to enhance the enjoyment and vitality of living spaces. The unique design aims to transform the negative image of Covid-19 partitions into a product that adds color and aesthetic appeal to our lives. The partition set features brightly colored acrylic, supported by simple bent brass, creating an art piece-like composition that enriches the room and remains sustainable beyond the pandemic.
The Object is a product that emphasizes both aesthetics and function, serving as a sustainable art piece rather than a temporary fixture. It is available in single and connect types, with the option to attach a wooden flower base for added versatility. The design's realization technology involves bending 6mm brass and inserting 500mm x 5mm round acrylic, with a 110mm x 20mm round brass weight to prevent tipping. The partition set was developed in Japan, with the project commencing in April 2020 and concluding in June 2021, and was exhibited at New Norma New Standard in October 2020 and June 2021.
Akira Nakagomi's design research involved exploring existing anti-corona splash-proof partitions, which led to the realization that many focused solely on function and temporary use. The goal was to create a partition that would continue to enhance spaces even after the pandemic, avoiding a sense of loneliness and instead adding a touch of elegance to the environment. Overcoming challenges related to fixing and connecting the acrylic components, the designer successfully created a partition that stands out for its unique blend of aesthetics and functionality.
