FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Swing Ao: Redefining Sitting with Tension Structure Stool

Takusei Kajitani introduces Swing Ao, a groundbreaking stool designed to revolutionize the concept of sitting. Unlike traditional chairs, Swing Ao is crafted with a tension structure that enables the seat to move freely, aligning with the sitter's pelvis movement, reminiscent of a small swing. This innovative design aims to combat the adverse effects of prolonged static sitting, promoting body activation and a sense of floating while seated.

Swing Ao's unique tension structure allows for a floating sensation, encouraging movement in the pelvis, spine, and surrounding muscles. By mimicking the experience of playing on a small swing, this stool promotes a healthier sitting experience. Additionally, the stool features an 8-degree angled seat, facilitating a healthy posture and preventing slouching.

Constructed with solid black cherry wood and an indigo-dyed finish in collaboration with the Ao team in Tokyo, Swing Ao boasts dimensions of 300mm in diameter and 450mm in height. The suspension material comprises 3mm rope for dinghy, while the seat is upholstered with artificial leather over a 60mm thick urethane cushion, ensuring both durability and comfort.

Swing Ao offers two distinct sitting modes: dynamic and static. In dynamic mode, users can enjoy the swinging motion by minimizing contact between the seat's rod and the base, promoting movement in the pelvis, hip joints, and spine. Conversely, in static mode, the seat's 8-degree angle facilitates a straight posture, catering to diverse sitting preferences.

The Swing project commenced as The Chair for Athlete project in Tokyo in April 2021, with the initial model completed in November 2021. Kajitani drew inspiration from The Alexander Technique for Musicians and Tensegrity by Buckminster Fuller, emphasizing the importance of body balance and suspension structures in the design process.

Swing Ao has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2022, underscoring its exceptional innovation and creative prowess. With a commitment to redefining sitting experiences, Takusei Kajitani continues to push the boundaries of design, offering a fresh perspective on functional and dynamic furniture.
