Celebrating the fusion of Milanese geometry and Venetian color, Ascanio Zocchi's Kotiso dining table-crafted with innovative glass techniques-has earned the Bronze A' Design Award 2025, highlighting its symbolic role for the International Year of Glass and its recognition in the ADI Design Index 2023.

Ascanio Zocchi's Kotiso dining table has been honored with the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2025, a testament to its creative ingenuity and technical excellence. Designed to symbolize the connection between Milan and Venice-two pivotal cities in the International Year of Glass-the table stands out for its unique blend of geometric transparency and vibrant color, inspired by the dawn-lit Venetian lagoon and Milan's evolving skyline. The table was also featured in the prestigious ADI Design Index 2023 and served as a symbol for the International Year of Glass in both Milan and Venice.
The Kotiso table is meticulously crafted using advanced glassmaking techniques. Glass blocks are first heated and then immersed in water, causing them to shatter into small pieces. These fragments are reassembled and fused in a melting furnace to create colorful agglomerates, which are then integrated into the table's design. The tabletop and base are made from 8 mm thick, extra-clear float glass, thermally tempered and finished with polished edge grinding. Measuring 100 cm by 180 cm with a height of 75 cm, Kotiso's proportions make it suitable as both a dining table and a desk.
Conceived in Milan in April 2022 and completed in Modena by August 2022, Kotiso is the result of extensive research aimed at uniting art, design, and technology. The project's main challenge was to harmoniously combine colored and float glass, achieving a striking interplay of transparency and color reminiscent of Venice's lagoon and Milan's architectural landscape. Kotiso not only exemplifies Italian design excellence but also serves as a bridge between tradition and innovation, making it a celebrated piece in contemporary furniture design.
