"Rural Student Friendly" Lamp Recognized for Addressing Lighting Challenges in Rural China with Sustainable, Multifunctional Design

Bihui Peng's "Rural Student Friendly" lamp has been honored with the Iron A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award 2025, celebrating its role in transforming lighting accessibility for students in rural China. Developed between April and August 2024 in Jieyang and Shenzhen, the lamp was inspired by the daily challenges faced by rural students due to inadequate outdoor and nighttime lighting, particularly when studying or navigating poorly lit areas such as toilets at night.

This multifunctional lamp stands out for its triple functionality, serving as a desk lamp, flashlight, and ambient light. Its intelligent control module allows users to easily switch lighting modes and adjust brightness, ensuring adaptability to various needs. The lamp's shell is crafted from secondary recycled aluminum alloy, making it not only economical and durable but also environmentally friendly. The design process involved close collaboration with local communities and multiple prototype tests to ensure the final product was both user-friendly and cost-effective.

Manufactured using efficient metal casting technology and finished with sandblasting for enhanced durability and aesthetics, the lamp is engineered for large-scale production. Its compact dimensions-25cm in height and an 8cm base diameter-make it practical for everyday use. The lamp's innovative pull-and-rotate mechanism for mode switching and intuitive button controls further enhance its usability, directly addressing the needs identified through extensive research and community engagement.

The Iron A' Design Award recognizes the "Rural Student Friendly" lamp as a well-designed, practical, and innovative product that integrates industry best practices and technical excellence. By providing an affordable, sustainable, and versatile lighting solution, Bihui Peng's design contributes to a better quality of life for rural students and sets a new standard for socially conscious product design.
