CZECH REPUBLIC -- /INNOVATION/newswire -- Aug 21, 2024

Prague-based designer Kristian Ruden has been honored with the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award 2025 for his Aeriform Armchair, a sculptural luxury seating piece inspired by the elegance of bird wings and developed through advanced virtual reality prototyping, ergonomic research, and meticulous craftsmanship, setting a new benchmark for comfort and artistry in high-end interiors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Aeriform Armchair: A Fusion of Sculptural Elegance, Ergonomic Innovation, and Luxury Craftsmanship

Kristian Ruden's Aeriform Armchair has been awarded the prestigious Bronze A' Furniture Design Award 2025, recognizing its outstanding blend of technical ingenuity, creative vision, and contribution to quality of life. Conceived as the centerpiece of Ruden's diploma project in Prague, the Aeriform was developed between December 2023 and June 2024, drawing inspiration from the graceful curves of bird wings and the iconic Ribbon Chair by Pierre Paulin. The design process was rooted in virtual reality, allowing for fluid exploration of form and structure, while extensive ergonomic testing ensured the chair's comfort for a diverse range of users.

Aeriform stands out for its sculptural presence and luxurious materials, featuring a three-layer fiberglass frame with an XPS foam core, precision padding, and seamless fabric or leather upholstery. The chair's base, crafted from laser-cut steel and finished with a 3D-printed shell, supports a springy, rocking motion and effortless rotation via a Lazy Susan mechanism. This innovative approach to both form and function results in a seating experience that is as visually striking as it is comfortable, making Aeriform a statement piece for contemporary, high-end interiors.

The development of Aeriform was driven by a deep investigation into ergonomics and comfort, surpassing the limitations of traditional anthropometric studies by employing custom-built testing jigs and real-world user trials. Ruden's research led to a dynamic, adaptable seating posture that accommodates various ways of sitting, from upright support to relaxed lounging. The chair's intuitive interaction requires no complex adjustments, while its seamless design and meticulous craftsmanship reflect a commitment to both artistry and usability. With its patent pending, Aeriform is set to redefine luxury seating and elevate the standards of modern furniture design.
