Beijing Forestry University has achieved international recognition with its "Corner" sofa chair, which was awarded the Iron A' Furniture Design Award in 2025. Designed by GongWei and the university's talented team, "Corner" exemplifies a harmonious blend of minimalism, ergonomic comfort, and distinctive modern aesthetics. The project, initiated in Beijing in January 2024 and completed in June 2024, responds to the growing demand for furniture that is both visually appealing and highly functional in diverse indoor settings.
The "Corner" sofa chair stands out for its unique combination of a solid ash wood frame, crafted using traditional mortise and tenon joints, and soft, resilient upholstery. Its design features striking triangular armrests paired with rounded, cushioned contours, creating a bold visual contrast that is both artistic and inviting. Every aspect, from the lowered seat and optimally tilted backrest to the carefully calculated armrest height, is informed by ergonomic research to ensure long-lasting comfort and support for users, whether in homes or public spaces.
Driven by a deep understanding of material properties and the needs of multifunctional environments, the design team overcame the challenge of uniting practicality, comfort, and artistic expression. The result is a chair that adapts seamlessly to various scenarios, offering a refined solution for relaxation and leisure. The Iron A' Design Award recognizes "Corner" not only for its technical excellence and innovative approach but also for its contribution to contemporary furniture design, setting a new standard for rational aesthetics and user-centered functionality.
