Nataliia Vergunova's Lumenica lighting collection, inspired by the organic forms of nature and crafted through advanced glass techniques, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in Lighting Products and Fixtures for 2025, recognizing its creative fusion of biomorphic aesthetics, technical innovation, and modern design excellence.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Lumenica lighting collection, designed by Nataliia Vergunova and her team in Kharkiv, Ukraine, has been awarded the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in Lighting Products and Fixtures for 2025. Developed as part of an academic project at O.M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy, Lumenica stands out for its unique approach to lighting design, drawing inspiration from the flowing, organic forms found in nature such as flowers, mushrooms, and jellyfish. The collection was unveiled in December 2024 during a university exhibition, where it captivated audiences with its dynamic interplay of light and material.
Lumenica's signature feature is its use of hand-blown glass, meticulously shaped and twisted to create relief patterns that evoke a sense of movement and vitality. The collection includes table lamps, wall lamps, and pendant fixtures, each combining frosted, transparent, and colored glass to emphasize natural imagery and enhance the perception of light within a space. The innovative glass processing techniques, including relief twisting and texturizing, were developed through extensive research and experimentation, overcoming both creative and technical challenges to achieve a harmonious balance between aesthetics and function.
The design process for Lumenica was rooted in the study of biomorphic structures and their adaptation to modern lighting. Through sketching, 3D modeling, and hands-on glasswork, Vergunova and her collaborators explored the potential of glass to capture the essence of living forms. The result is a collection that not only advances contemporary lighting design but also demonstrates the value of integrating craft tradition, scientific research, and sustainable practices. Lumenica's recognition by the A' Design Award highlights its contribution to improving quality of life and setting new standards in art, science, and technology within the field of lighting.
