Brilliant Olive: Award-Winning Kiriko Glass Tableware Inspired by Nature's Wisdom and Peace

Keiji Ishikawa's Brilliant Olive collection, crafted in Tokushima, Japan, has captured international attention by winning the Silver A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware category for 2025. Drawing inspiration from the olive trees of Shodoshima-symbols of peace, wisdom, and prosperity-the collection embodies the enduring vitality and tranquility of nature. Each piece is meticulously hand-cut using traditional Japanese Kiriko glass techniques, resulting in tableware that is both visually stunning and rich in cultural symbolism.

The unique design features olive branches with alternating pairs of leaves spiraling around the glass, some heart-shaped to evoke warmth and serenity. Gradient-colored olives and intricately arranged leaves create a dynamic, puzzle-like pattern that shimmers as light passes through, mimicking the movement of living olive leaves. When viewed from above, especially with a drink inside, the overlapping patterns reflect and refract, producing a mesmerizing, lifelike effect that elevates the drinking experience.

Brilliant Olive's realization required custom-designed wide-angle V-cut grinding wheels and advanced glass-cutting techniques to achieve the delicate gradients and precise motifs, particularly on darker glass surfaces. The collection includes sake glasses, wine glasses, rock glasses, and plates, each showcasing Ishikawa's mastery of form and function. The award recognizes not only the technical excellence but also the emotional resonance and artistry that define Ishikawa's work, bringing a sense of calm and wonder to everyday life.
