Prism Sideboard: A Modern Masterpiece Merging Vintage Inspiration, Sustainable Craft, and Artistic Reflection

Maan Sydney Design Studio has achieved international recognition with its Prism sideboard, which has been awarded the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award for 2025. The Prism sideboard stands out for its unique blend of vintage cabinet inspiration and contemporary design, drawing from the allure of gemstones and their captivating ability to reflect light. Designed by Anna Magnusson and Mac Nordman, the piece was developed in Sydney between May 2024 and January 2025, and is celebrated for its innovative approach to both form and function.

The Prism sideboard distinguishes itself through its sharp yet romantic silhouette, featuring a mirroring metallic top that transforms the piece into functional art. This reflective surface not only enhances the visual appeal but also invites interaction, mirroring its surroundings-whether that be a beautiful ceiling, cityscape, or cherished objects placed atop it. The designers meticulously balanced the angles and proportions of the panels to achieve harmony between roundness and sharpness, ensuring the sideboard feels both timeless and modern.

Sustainability is at the core of Prism's construction. The sideboard's body utilizes offcuts from other projects, with options in ethically sourced PEFC certified Tasmanian oak or Scandinavian birch plywood. The Rimex stainless steel mirror top is made from a minimum of 50% recycled steel, etched with eco-friendly, recyclable glass beads. The thoughtful use of materials and the focus on longevity reflect Maan Sydney's commitment to environmentally conscious design. The Prism sideboard's recognition at the A' Design Awards underscores its contribution to quality of life and the advancement of design best practices.
