Nomadic Inflatable Tent Marries Kyrgyz Yurt Heritage with Modern Camping Innovation

Yubin Wang, an industrial designer from Xi'an, China, has been honored with the Silver A' Design Award 2025 for his Nomadic Inflatable camping tent, a project that reimagines the traditional Kyrgyz yurt for today's outdoor enthusiasts. Developed between October 2023 and May 2024 through extensive research in Kyrgyzstan and China, the tent was unveiled at "Innovative Horizons: A Showcase of Design Excellence" in Singapore, where it drew attention for its seamless blend of culture and technology.

The Nomadic Inflatable tent stands out for its innovative structure, utilizing inflatable air columns that allow for rapid, single-person setup using an electric air pump. Drawing inspiration from the symbolic dome of Kyrgyz yurts, the tent features a transparent TPU, mesh, and fabric construction with reflective accents, offering both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. Its earthy color palette pays homage to nomadic landscapes, while the compact, lightweight design ensures easy transport and storage in a car trunk, making it ideal for families seeking quick escapes to nature.

Wang's design process involved hands-on research, including building a traditional yurt in Kyrgyzstan and surveying local families about their travel habits and product preferences. The result is a tent that not only celebrates the artistry and symbolism of nomadic culture but also addresses the needs of modern campers for efficiency, safety, and comfort. The patented design (Patent No.ZL202430042904.5) has been praised for its technical excellence, cultural resonance, and the way it bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary outdoor living.
