Tehran-based designer Nastaran Akbari has been honored with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 for her innovative 3 Khan, a multifunctional children's product that transforms into a table, double table, or cottage, blending playful learning with Persian cultural storytelling for families worldwide.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nastaran Akbari's 3 Khan, recently recognized with the Iron A' Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design Award 2025, is redefining multifunctional children's furniture. Designed in Tehran and completed in November 2024, 3 Khan addresses the evolving needs of children aged one to seven by offering three distinct configurations: a single table, a double table, and a cottage. Each setup is crafted to support developmental stages, encourage imaginative play, and strengthen the bond between parents and children.
The product's main structure is made from durable plywood, featuring hand-painted illustrations inspired by the Shahnameh, the epic Persian Book of Kings. Aluminum sliding connectors allow for seamless transformation between modes, while the design's puzzle-like assembly fosters practical skills and teamwork. The entire set, including two sizes of child's chairs and a truck-shaped storage box, is optimized for strength, safety, and ease of use-requiring no mechanical tools for assembly.
Akbari's research-driven approach focused on space-saving versatility and budget-friendly solutions for modern families. By integrating cultural storytelling into the product's visuals and encouraging collaborative assembly, 3 Khan not only entertains but also educates, nurturing creativity and cultural appreciation. The award from A' Design Award & Competition highlights 3 Khan's excellence in design, functionality, and its positive impact on family life.
