Architone App Wins Iron A' Design Award for Revolutionizing Music Theory Education

CHINA -- /INNOVATION/newswire -- Aug 27, 2024

Hangzhou-based designer Jiaxing Yu and team have been honored with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 for Architone, an innovative iPad app that transforms abstract music theory into engaging, intuitive learning experiences for students worldwide.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Architone: A Dual-Mode Music Learning App Bridging Theory and Creativity

Architone, developed by Jiaxing Yu and his team in Hangzhou, China, has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 in the Education, Teaching Aid and Training Content Design category. The app addresses long-standing challenges in music education by making complex music theory accessible and enjoyable for learners of all ages. By visualizing music concepts as interactive blocks and buildings, Architone empowers users to grasp difficult theories and apply them creatively, bridging the gap between learning and practice.

The app features two core modes: Learning Mode and Creation Mode. In Learning Mode, students progress through levels that introduce chords and harmony structures, reinforcing their understanding through hands-on reconstruction of musical compositions. Creation Mode allows users to freely compose their own music using the knowledge they have acquired, fostering both technical skills and creative expression. This dual-mode approach supports incremental skill development and encourages learners to become musical architects in their own right.

Architone's design process was rooted in extensive research, including interviews with educators and students to identify key pain points in traditional music education-namely, the abstractness of theory, repetitive training, and lack of integration between theory and practice. Built as an iPadOS application using SwiftUI, Architone offers adaptive layouts and smooth animations, ensuring an engaging experience across devices. Since its inception in October 2023, the project has undergone more than 20 iterations, resulting in a polished, user-centered platform that is now celebrated on the global stage.
