Vector Scissors by Tamás Fekete Win Silver A' Design Award for Innovative Precision Cutting

NETHERLANDS -- /INNOVATION/newswire -- Nov 03, 2024

Rotterdam-based designer Tamás Fekete has been awarded the Silver A' Design Award 2025 for Vector Scissors, an innovative cutting tool that reimagines traditional scissors by integrating a guided cutting mechanism inspired by paper guillotines, enabling users to achieve precise, straight cuts with ease and ergonomic comfort.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vector Scissors: Redefining Precision Cutting with Ergonomic Innovation and Guided Control

Vector Scissors, designed by Tamás Fekete and recently honored with the Silver A' Design Award in 2025, represent a breakthrough in the world of cutting tools. Developed through extensive research and prototyping in both Budapest and Rotterdam, the Vector Scissors address the longstanding challenge of achieving accurate, straight cuts using handheld scissors. By drawing inspiration from the mechanics of paper guillotines, Fekete has created a tool that brings guided precision to everyday cutting tasks without sacrificing the versatility of traditional scissors.

The unique design features an ergonomic handle and a specialized blade orientation that allows users to stabilize the scissors against the edge of a table. This innovative approach transforms the table edge into a natural guide, enabling smooth, linear cuts with minimal effort. Users can operate the Vector Scissors as they would any standard pair, but for tasks requiring straight lines-such as crafting, fabric work, or repetitive paper cutting-the guided method ensures accuracy and control. The handle, meticulously sculpted and refined through clay modeling and digital reverse engineering, provides comfort and stability, while the stainless steel blades are precision laser-cut and hand-sharpened by a third-generation craftsman in Hungary.

The development process involved multiple prototype iterations, user interviews, and ergonomic studies to refine both functionality and user experience. Early versions utilized silicone-molded resin handles, while the latest generation employs advanced additive manufacturing techniques, with future plans for injection molding. The project, which began in Budapest in 2013 and saw its latest update completed in Rotterdam in January 2025, has been exhibited across Europe and recognized for its technical excellence and artistic innovation. The patented Vector Scissors exemplify how thoughtful design can bridge the gap between everyday practicality and professional-grade precision, setting a new standard for cutting tools worldwide.
