Bulent Unal's latest project, "Re Form," has received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture category for 2025, recognizing its innovative approach to urban furniture. Developed in Ankara between December 2024 and February 2025, "Re Form" addresses the evolving needs of public spaces by offering a modular, reconfigurable seating system that adapts to diverse urban environments. The design is inspired by the principles of modularity in architecture and urban design, focusing on flexibility, durability, and user engagement.
The "Re Form" system comprises four main concrete modules, two of which feature sub-variations, all maintaining a uniform seating height of 450 mm for ergonomic comfort. Each module can be arranged in multiple configurations, allowing city planners and communities to tailor public spaces to suit changing spatial and functional requirements. Optional wooden or concrete seating surfaces enhance comfort and aesthetics, while the robust concrete construction ensures weather resistance and long-term usability. The modules are designed for forklift-assisted placement, making installation and reconfiguration straightforward and cost-effective.
Research and development for "Re Form" included ergonomic studies, material testing, and analysis of modular arrangements to optimize both user comfort and spatial efficiency. The system's adaptability encourages social interaction and inclusivity, fostering dynamic public spaces that evolve with community needs. By enabling repositioning over time, "Re Form" not only supports sustainable urban development but also keeps environments engaging and relevant. This award-winning design exemplifies how thoughtful, flexible urban furniture can contribute to more vibrant, accessible, and resilient cities.
