Shenzhen-based designer Menghao Zeng has been awarded the prestigious Golden A' Packaging Design Award 2025 for the Menhao Tea Archival Collection Case, a groundbreaking system that transforms traditional tea evaluation into a scientific, data-driven experience through visual metrics and archival aesthetics.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Menhao Tea Archival Collection Case, designed by Menghao Zeng and his team in Shenzhen, China, has been recognized with the Golden A' Packaging Design Award 2025 for its innovative approach to tea selection. Inspired by 19th-century botanical archives, the collection case replaces subjective tea descriptors with quantifiable visual metrics, including chromatic scales, flavor indicators, and origin traceability codes. This system provides a verifiable and transparent framework for evaluating Menhao Tea, bridging the gap between tradition and modern scientific rigor.
Distinctive for its use of biological phylogenetic trees, the archival case maps six major tea categories, integrating terroir coordinates, craft evolution timelines, and flavor matrices. Each capsule within the case details geo-coordinates, tree age, and processing parameters, all synchronized with a traceable quality database. The sustainable design employs washable kraft paper and a cotton cord closure system, evoking the tactile ritual of archival document retrieval while ensuring durability and reusability. Bronze gold hot foil stamping and silver foil parameter indicators further enhance the academic aesthetic, making the case both a functional and visually compelling gift system.
Launched in Shenzhen in November 2024 and fully implemented by January 2025, the project is the result of extensive research into scientific decision-making models for tea consumption. By quantifying intangible heritage techniques and rigorously testing material lifecycles, the Menhao Tea Archival Collection Case demystifies tea culture and empowers consumers to make informed choices. This achievement not only advances packaging design but also sets a new benchmark for integrating data-driven methodologies into traditional product experiences.
