Triad Stool: A Minimalist, Durable, and Ergonomic Seating Solution Inspired by Triangular Geometry

Triad, the latest creation from Mingbo Hou & Ruoyou Zhou Design Team, has received the Silver A' Furniture Design Award 2025, recognizing its exceptional approach to form, function, and sustainability. Developed in Okinawa between October and December 2024, Triad is a minimalist stool crafted from laser-cut steel sheets, expertly bent and TIG welded to achieve a seamless triangular form. The design draws inspiration from the inherent stability and balance of triangles, resulting in a stool that is both visually striking and structurally robust.

Addressing the challenges of compact living, Triad's precisely angled metal construction ensures durability while maintaining a lightweight profile of just 2.5 kg. Its gently contoured seat offers ergonomic comfort, and the stool's compact dimensions (W 350 mm × D 303 mm × H 450 mm) make it ideal for a variety of settings, from homes and cafés to public spaces. The stool is available in multiple finishes and colors, allowing it to complement diverse interior styles without requiring any assembly.

The development of Triad was guided by extensive user experience research and material engineering analysis. Through user interviews, ergonomic testing, and multiple prototype iterations, the design team optimized the seat angle for comfort and verified the load-bearing advantages of triangular geometry. Precision in CNC bending and welding was essential to achieving the stool's harmonious form and consistent quality. Triad's innovative approach not only maximizes material efficiency but also delivers a refined, sustainable seating solution that resonates with contemporary lifestyles.
