House of Smaragd Advent Calendar: A Sustainable, Reusable Jewelry Countdown Experience

The House of Smaragd Advent Calendar is a limited-edition jewelry countdown box that reimagines the traditional advent experience through sustainable design and thoughtful craftsmanship. Created by Rilind Hoxha with creative direction from Haris Murich, the calendar features four individually packaged jewelry pieces, each housed in its own compartment within a recyclable and reusable box. The design draws inspiration from vintage advent calendars, merging nostalgic anticipation with contemporary eco-consciousness.

Produced primarily at Why Agency's offices and executed by AJ-Graf Matbaa in Skopje, the calendar was launched for the 2024 holiday season following a successful pilot in 2023. The final version, released on December 9, 2024, is crafted from ecologically colored recycled paper and gold-plated accents, measuring 164x164x42mm. The box's structure allows for controlled access to each compartment, preserving the element of surprise while ensuring the jewelry remains protected. The packaging's durability and reusability further minimize environmental impact, aligning with growing consumer demand for sustainable gifting solutions.

In addition to its innovative use of materials, the House of Smaragd Advent Calendar stands out for its design process, which combined digital sketching in Adobe Illustrator with meticulous hand-finishing. Research for the project included both online exploration and inspiration from vintage flea market finds, resulting in a blueprint that balances elegance, functionality, and environmental responsibility. The calendar is available both online and at Smaragd stores in Skopje, offering a unique and memorable holiday experience for jewelry enthusiasts and gift-givers alike.
