Ramesh Armchair: A Fusion of Nature-Inspired Form, Ergonomic Comfort, and Artisanal Craftsmanship

Ramesh, the latest creation by Sepideh Bayat, has captured international attention by winning the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2025. Conceived in both Philadelphia, USA, and Tabriz, Iran, Ramesh is an armchair that draws inspiration from the dynamic stillness and graceful power of a gazelle. The design translates the animal's poised arcs into a sculptural form, balancing strength and sophistication. This dual-component structure, crafted from CNC-milled hardwood and premium leather, reflects a harmony of opposites-bold yet refined, structured yet flowing.

The chair's unique silhouette is defined by a continuous arc extending from the back legs to the armrests and backrest, ensuring both visual cohesion and ergonomic support. Advanced digital modeling enabled precise shaping, while traditional woodworking and meticulous upholstery bring warmth and luxury to the final product. The cup-like armrests and contoured, segmented backrest invite relaxation, while engineered joints and reinforced connectors guarantee stability and longevity. Each detail, from the seamless transitions to the tactile leather, is designed to elevate the user's experience, making sitting an intentional and refined act.

Ramesh is the result of extensive research into biomorphic forms, animal biomechanics, and luxury automotive design, notably drawing on the aerodynamic curves of classic sports cars. The project overcame significant technical challenges, including achieving structural integrity without compromising the chair's visual lightness and ensuring the illusion of continuity between its two main components. Through a rigorous design and prototyping process, Ramesh stands as a testament to the possibilities of merging natural inspiration with contemporary craftsmanship, offering a timeless statement piece for discerning interiors.
