Yuto Hiramatsu's Shade: A Unique Fusion of Japanese Tradition and Modern Design

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shade: A Japanese Partition Shelf

Yuto Hiramatsu introduces "Shade," a partition shelf inspired by the traditional Japanese Shoji sliding doors. This innovative furniture piece combines the delicate art of Washi, a thin Japanese paper, with soft cedar wood, creating a comfortable tension and warmth in any space.

The unique use of Washi allows for the creation of captivating shadows and the ability to change the appearance of the shelf, offering a versatile and customizable design. The top panel is made of knotty grain, and wooden dowels are used for the joint surface, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship behind the realization of this design.

Measuring W555 H1500 D200, with a single frame at W555 H280, Shade offers a distinctive interaction as it allows for the re-covering of Washi, providing a hands-on experience for users to personalize their shelf. The project, which began in April 2019 and concluded in December 2021 in Japan, reflects extensive research and innovation in utilizing cedar wood and Washi to create a new standard in furniture design.
