FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As the world grapples with the ongoing pandemic, the environmental impact of disposable face masks has become a pressing concern. Yawen Chen and her design team have unveiled Marimask, a revolutionary biodegradable face mask with easy-cutting straps, aimed at safeguarding marine life from the hazards of discarded masks.
Marimask is crafted from seaweed-based materials, ensuring it can be biodegraded in soil or seawater. The mask's innovative design features a button that allows users to effortlessly cut off the straps, reducing the risk of marine life entanglement. Additionally, the mask boasts an antibacterial effect and meets the standard of KN95 for filter efficiency.
With a size of 150mm x 100mm x 5mm, Marimask not only prioritizes sustainability but also emphasizes user convenience and environmental responsibility. The project, which commenced in December 2022 and concluded in February 2023, has garnered recognition, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Disposable and Single-Use Product category.
Yawen Chen, along with her team members Xiaofeng Wu, Lixuan Zhao, and Angchi Huang, has successfully addressed the critical issue of mask pollution through Marimask, offering a practical and eco-conscious solution to protect our oceans and marine ecosystems.
