Wen Jenq Cherng's Chair of Soul Redefines Comfort and Elegance in Furniture Design

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chair of Soul: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

Wen Jenq Cherng's Chair of Soul reimagines the quintessential chair as a vessel for relaxation and body support. Inspired by the designer's meditation practice, the chair aims to provide a completely relaxed condition for the body, focusing on functionality and comfort. The design draws from the elegant and simple exterior of Chinese traditional Ming Dynasty furniture, incorporating a unique arc structure for support and utilizing ebony from Sulawesi, Indonesia, to embody sophistication.

The chair's slightly bulging backrest embraces the body, offering support for the shoulders, neck, waist, and limbs, akin to a comforting hug. The mortice and tenon joint reinforces the chair's mechanics system while enhancing its spiritual appearance. With metallic copper tube legs and a purple cow Nappa leather seat, the Chair of Soul harmoniously combines elegance, stability, and sustainability.

Starting in December 2016 and completed in December 2018, the project reflects extensive research on material choice and human body proportions. Wen Jenq Cherng's innovative approach to furniture design has earned the Chair of Soul the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving quality of life.
