Danne Ojeda's Typography Project Showcases Unique Drop Caps in 'A Garden for All' Book
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Danne Ojeda, an Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, led a typography project titled TYPOLogy: A Garden for All, where students from the School of Art, Design and Media were tasked with designing drop caps inspired by the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The best designs were featured in the book 'A Garden for All,' published by Epigram Books, showcasing the students' typographical works influenced by the flora, fauna, and unique elements of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Under Ojeda's creative direction, the students conducted field research in the gardens, creating original drop caps that were used throughout the book. The project, which took place over 8 weeks from September to November 2022, aimed to depict the richness of the botanical gardens through contemporary illustrated type designs.
This educational initiative resulted in a diverse range of font families, each capturing the essence of the gardens. The project was recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, highlighting the exceptional creativity and innovation demonstrated by the students' typographic prototypes.
