TAI,HSIN-KAI presents "Zero," a circular light design inspired by the endless cycle of life and the beauty of glass regeneration, made with 100% recyclable glass.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TAI,HSIN-KAI introduces "Zero," a circular light design that embodies the subtle relationship between water, transparency, and time. Crafted from 100% recyclable glass, "Zero" aims to convey the values of nature and sustainability through its innovative design.
The unique properties of "Zero" lie in its ability to carry light, time, water, and the transparency of plasticity, allowing users to visually and tactilely experience the passage of time. The design creates small ripples per second, symbolizing the recurring events triggered by the movement of the pointer within a whole circle of time.
Cooperating with Spring Pool Glass, "Zero" is made of recycled glass and soft light, touching the users' hearts and promoting sustainability. It is set to be placed at Spring Pool Glass's cooperative stores, offering a unique experience for customers who seek spiritual enjoyment and comfort in their homes.
The design specifications for "Zero" are as follows: Width 235mm x Depth 235mm x Height 164mm. The design keywords include circular, light, relax, glass, water, and time.
Designed by HSINKAI TAI and WANTING LIN, "Zero" offers a simple interaction process, requiring users to stack and assemble the components, insert the battery, plug it, insert the pointer, and pour water into the glass dish, allowing them to feel the changes of light and shadow in a relaxing manner.
The project commenced in November 2022 and concluded in May 2023, with an exhibition at YODEX Industry-Academia Cooperation in May 2023.
TAI,HSIN-KAI's research focused on finding materials similar to glass's characteristics to bring its value into daily lives. The design aimed to present light and shadow changes, such as ripples spreading and water droplets falling, while removing stress-inducing elements like scales and ticking sounds.
The design overcame challenges related to the limitations of shape and modularity in glass products, ultimately expressing the uniqueness and beauty of daily life through the interaction of water and light.
TAI,HSIN-KAI, a designer specializing in sustainable, recycled materials, hails from Hsinchu County, Taiwan (China). "Zero" has been awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2024, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
