FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Matsu Biennial 2023, an ambitious 10-year project, is set to launch its 2nd edition, "Ruby Red After Summer," from Sept. 23 to Nov. 12, 2023, across the 4 townships and 5 islands of Matsu, Taiwan. The event aims to restore the suppressed voices and unique Cold-War heritage of Matsu, utilizing art curation and social design to revitalize the region's cultural identity and drive sustainable governance.
The Biennial, unlike typical art festivals, spans across 5 planned biennials, involving experts and providing integrated design solutions. It integrates cultural governance and design thinking into policymaking to advance art and education, creating a long-term cultural movement through site translation, cultural tours, and co-creation.
Featuring 70 works across 9 curation projects of architecture, art, food, and performance, the Biennial connects contemporary mediums with traditional arts, revitalizing local traditions. It spans exhibition grounds across the 4 townships and 5 islands of Matsu, with 12 co-curators and 80 artist groups, including local and international artists.
