Coastline: A Table Design by Wu Yu-Han

Wu Yu-Han's Coastline table design draws inspiration from the eroding coastlines due to rising sea levels, featuring a layered appearance that reflects the impact of global warming. The combination of liquid acrylic and wood creates a visually stunning representation of the sea's clarity and the ruggedness of mountains.

The table top, crafted from PMMA, showcases the clarity of the sea, while the table itself is predominantly made of michelia compressa and Pine, echoing the layered light and height of mountains. With dimensions of 350mm in width, 650mm in depth, and 500mm in height, this unique table design stands out as a statement piece.

Exhibited at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in June 2017 and later at the Taipei Pavilion of Fashion in November 2019, Coastline has garnered attention for its innovative approach to design and its thought-provoking commentary on environmental issues.

Wu Yu-Han's design process was not without its challenges. The selection and shaping of liquid acrylic, requiring high-temperature heating, posed technical obstacles. However, through meticulous testing and material selection, the designer overcame these challenges to realize the vision of Coastline.

With a keen eye for current affairs and a passion for creating designs that resonate with life, Wu Yu-Han's work continues to captivate audiences with its unique blend of art and functionality. The Coastline table design, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in 2020, stands as a testament to the designer's commitment to innovation and excellence.
