Catvas: Redefining Cat Scratching Behavior

Zhenyang Yan's Catvas is a groundbreaking pet product that reimagines cat scratching behavior as a creative and collaborative process. Unlike traditional scratching boards, Catvas offers a unique double-layered fabric that gradually reveals a painting-like effect as cats scratch, turning their natural behavior into an artistic expression. This innovative approach not only enriches the living environment for both cats and their owners but also encourages a deeper bond between them.

Constructed with recyclable materials such as wood, aluminum, and fabric made of old cloths and mycorrhiza, Catvas is not only environmentally friendly but also easy to assemble, reducing packaging costs and waste during transport. The L-shape structure and removable double-layered fabric panel make it convenient for cats to engage with, while the underlying fabric constantly exposes a unique visual effect, similar to a painting, creating a customizable and decorative element for any home.

The project, which commenced in January 2023 and concluded in December 2023 in Shanghai, was driven by extensive research into both cat behavior and the emotional needs of pet owners. The result is a product that not only meets the practical needs of cats but also satisfies the emotional and aesthetic desires of their human companions. Catvas has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2024, highlighting its innovative and practical approach to pet care and product design.
