The Forum Pavilion by Justin Nardone Unveiled at Chicago Architectural Biennial in 2023
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Justin Nardone's groundbreaking creation, The Forum, challenges traditional architectural norms by drawing inspiration from aerospace and automotive manufacturing. This innovative pavilion, currently being reassembled in its permanent home in a Chicago gallery, serves as a stage, screen, instrument, and backdrop, fostering community and social interaction. Utilizing digital sheet metal forming, the structure and façade seamlessly integrate into fluid surfaces, showcasing the potential of new manufacturing technologies. The Forum's modular nature and adaptability make it a pioneering prototype for future construction methods.
The design process involved meticulous attention to manufacturing constraints, resulting in 66 unique aerospace-grade aluminum panels that form both the structure and the form. This achievement was made possible through Figur digital sheet forming technology, with each panel taking approximately 10 minutes to form, culminating in a total production time of under 12 hours. The pavilion's technical specifications measure 12700mm x 5700mm x 3100mm, further emphasizing its grandeur and uniqueness.
Justin Nardone's vision for The Forum extends beyond its physical presence. It represents a new era in manufacturing, assembly, and organization, reflecting a deep interest in the tectonics of objects and their potential to achieve new modes of functionality. Overcoming the challenges of creating a lightweight, structurally sound, and easily assembled installation, The Forum stands as a testament to Nardone's expertise in digital fabrication technologies and his commitment to bridging the gap between digital design and advanced manufacturing.
