Discover the innovative Minus stool, a sculptural masterpiece inspired by ancient art and modern ergonomics, designed by Yifan Ding and awarded the prestigious A' Design Award.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yifan Ding's Minus stool draws inspiration from the timeless art of sculpture, translating ancient techniques into a modern, minimalist form. Crafted by selectively subtracting from a basic cubic shape, the stool's elegant and fluid surfaces offer both visual appeal and ergonomic functionality. With a lower curve for resting feet, an upper indentation for enhanced seating, and a scooped back for effortless handling, the Minus stool redefines the traditional concept of seating.
The Minus stool is realized using advanced production techniques, with the whole stool made from plastic and finished with a slightly blue metallic coating. Additionally, two variations feature marble patterns created through hydro dipping. The technical specifications include a width of 420mm, depth of 350mm, and a height of 450mm, making it a versatile and practical addition to any space.
Yifan Ding's design journey for the Minus stool involved extensive research into sitting ergonomics, culminating in a collaborative process that embedded user-centric insights into the heart of the stool's design. Overcoming creative and technical challenges, the designer utilized AR tools to ensure the subtle surface changes matched the minimalistic vision.
Exhibited at the Gallery at ArtCenter College of Design, the Minus stool has garnered acclaim, earning the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This recognition celebrates the stool's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
