Federico Varone's Abrete y Cierrate cabinet design, inspired by garlands and the interplay of light and shadow, wins Silver A' Design Award for its innovative craftsmanship and unique features.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Federico Varone's Abrete y Cierrate cabinet design is a unique fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation. Inspired by the changing shapes of garlands and the interplay of light and shadow, the cabinet features a weft that changes with movement, interacting with the user and the environment. The name, which translates to "Open and Close," reflects the design's focus on the relationship between the interior and exterior, as well as the transformation of the weft when opening and closing the cabinet doors.
The cabinet is made using a combination of traditional techniques and numerical control machinery, with doors crafted from a weft of recycled leather and Lenga wood. Custom magnetic sockets produce a subtle closing sensation when the panel is slid over the rails, creating a unique user experience. The design was awarded Silver in the A' Furniture Design Award in 2022, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
Exhibited at renowned events such as Wanted Design/Launch Pad, Salone Satellite, and MADE (Mercado Arte Design), the Abrete y Cierrate cabinet continues to captivate audiences with its experimental use of materials, interaction with light and shadow, and seamless blend of conceptual and traditional elements.
