Re-Leaf: The Ecological Tree Pool Design
Wenkai Xue's Re-Leaf is a groundbreaking ecological tree pool design that harnesses fallen leaves as fertilizer, promoting sustainable and regenerative tree growth. The design, shaped by cast iron molding technology, measures 1300mm in width, 1300mm in depth, and 250mm in height.
The project, initiated in April 2015 at LAFA Communal Facility Design Studio and completed in August 2016 at the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA, offers a semi-closed tree pool that effectively avoids water runoff and protects soil moisture, providing an ideal space for fallen leaves to decompose and enrich the soil.
Wenkai Xue, along with the design team, overcame the challenge of material selection to achieve the desired effect, ensuring the tree pool's functionality and durability. The innovative design has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2017, highlighting its outstanding expertise and innovation.
