Introducing the Innovative Sofia Drinking Fountain
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Designer Dragomir Å uka introduces the Sofia drinking fountain, a refreshing urban solution that addresses the need for public access to free drinking water. Inspired by the concept of cupped hands and the form of a circle, this unique design offers a recognizable and practical form for public spaces.
The Sofia drinking fountain stands out with its central spatial accent and minimalist design, providing easy access to drinking water for all users, including wheelchair users and individuals with visual impairments. The design features a water flow system that maintains water quality, ensuring a continuous supply for both people and animals.
Realized through a combination of 3D wood modeling and classic bronze casting, the fountain comprises various elements, including a round-shaped base, a casted body with an animal bowl, and a tactile-touch braille drinking water sign. With dimensions of 1170 x 400 x 1000 mm, the Sofia drinking fountain offers a unique and functional addition to public spaces.
Initiated in July 2016 in Karlovac, Croatia, the project was exhibited in September 2016 in Zagreb. The design process involved extensive research to create a multifunctional fountain that combines ergonomic values, stylistic features, and appropriate materials to fit seamlessly into diverse public spaces.
Overcoming challenges related to practical design realization, Dragomir Å uka's vision for the Sofia drinking fountain emphasizes contemporary, urban, and ergonomic qualities. The design's multifunctionality ensures easy access for all users, making it a valuable addition to urban landscapes.
