Shota Urasaki unveils "Mushroom," a nature-inspired camphor tree shelf, blending vitality and freedom into functional design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shota Urasaki, a designer for Yamaha Corporation, introduces "Mushroom," a camphor tree shelf inspired by the vitality and freedom of mushrooms growing from artifacts in nature. The shelf, embedded with magnets, offers users the freedom to place the mushroom-shaped shelves as they desire, creating a unique appearance tailored to individual preferences.
The large mushrooms provide space for various items, while the smaller ones can hold postcards or memos, adding both functionality and aesthetic appeal to the design.
The mushrooms are meticulously hand-carved from Okinawan camphorwood and attached to thin steel plates rising from the floor, showcasing a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern functionality.
Urasaki's "Mushroom" shelf stands at 910mm wide, 450mm deep, and 1500mm high, offering a unique and versatile addition to any living space.
Urasaki's design journey involved extensive research, including visits to several islands in Okinawa to observe and sketch nature, culminating in the creation of a design that captures the essence of the region's natural beauty.
Shota Urasaki's "Mushroom" shelf was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its outstanding creativity and ingenious design that authentically embodies experience and resourcefulness.
