The 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival, hosted by Kaohsiung City Government, illuminates the city with a grand display of light and art, showcasing the unique spirit of Taiwan's traditional festival.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kaohsiung City Government proudly presents the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival, a monumental celebration of light and art. The festival, held in Kaohsiung, marks the 33rd edition of this traditional Chinese festival and is themed "Lights Kaohsiung, illuminates Taiwan." The event is set to be the largest lantern festival in history, spanning two national venues, Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts and Kaohsiung Music Center, and covering approximately 100 hectares of exhibition space.
The festival breaks new ground by integrating urban design into the traditional lantern festival, introducing three main types of lights â land, sea, and air â and incorporating advanced technologies such as AIoT performances and drone shows. The exhibition will also feature the first 360-degree immersive light and shadow theater, offering visitors a one-of-a-kind experience.
The planning team has meticulously curated a diverse range of light artworks from both local and international artists, creating a stunning fusion of local memories and global aesthetics. The festival aims to not only provide a visual feast for attendees but also to convey the concept of cherishing light and reducing light, contributing to the creation of a more sustainable and aesthetically enriched cityscape.
