Light Scars by Ruth Bachrach

Ruth Bachrach's Light Scars is a simple yet elegant application of laser cutting technique to carefully selected fabrics, creating sheers with a unique designed font that allows clear text while maintaining the strength of the material. This innovative technique is being developed to be easily accessible to end-consumers through a Product-on-Demand application and interior designers. Users will have the freedom to choose their own texts, from poetry to personal messages, and apply them in their living spaces, merging personal narratives with the play of light and space.

Utilizing polyester fabric and a custom-designed font, Light Scars offers a range of fonts in English, Japanese, Arabic, and Hebrew, providing a personalized touch to interior spaces. The design, inspired by Ruth's personal narrative and the use of written word in architecture, aims to commemorate and celebrate the individual and collective stories of the end-consumers, creating a unique, intimate, and personal experience.

Light Scars is a testament to Ruth's dedication to capturing time, space, meaning, and love in a physical form, encapsulated in an ornamental yet functional object. This project, which began in 2016, has been a labor of love for Ruth, with ongoing research and development to bring this innovative design to fruition. The design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its practicality, innovation, and ability to meet professional and industrial requirements.
