Living Architecture Lab introduces "Diffusive Habitats," a resilient architectural system challenging traditional praxis and embracing constant spatial reconfiguration.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Living Architecture Lab has unveiled "Diffusive Habitats," a groundbreaking mechatronic architecture system that reimagines the way architecture is conceived and inhabited. The project, developed as part of the Architectural Design M.Arch. at UCL in London, UK, challenges traditional practices by embracing distributed robotics, reinforcement learning, and digital platforms to create a resilient and adaptable architectural system.
Diffusive Habitats operates via an online platform that facilitates plot search, habitat crowdfunding, collaborative design, and spatial reconfiguration. The project received the Bartlett AD Gold Medal at the Bartlett B-Pro Show Expo in late 2022, recognizing its innovative approach to architectural design.
The system consists of 3D-printed robotic prototypes, CNC-milled laminated plywood material prototypes, and an online platform employing sophisticated algorithms to organize space based on inhabitant requirements, structural integrity, and environmental optimization.
Living Architecture Lab's "Diffusive Habitats" is a pioneering project that explores a radically novel way of living, with the potential to transform rigid urban dwellings into flexible hubs for the ever-accelerating change of our times.
