Ivana Wingham's Airy is a bespoke, adaptable, and mobile worktable designed to anchor the ever-changing studio space, offering light mobility, formal functionality, and oblique adaptability.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ivana Wingham's Airy is a mobile worktable designed to adapt to the evolving studio space, whether indoors or outdoors. Its curved table-top design provides a sense of airiness, offering lightness and a comprehensive view of its surroundings. The carefully crafted prototype is both sturdy and light, straddling the paradox between bespoke furniture complexity and a fast assembly process. Its unique properties and adaptability make it a standout in any workspace.
The production of Airy work table combines modernist techniques with digitally drawn precision, resulting in a 1:1 final production. Specially built two-part presses were used to form curved panels, while metal support and legs were made from hollow bars, laser cut, and welded with precision. The table's dimensions vary depending on its assembly, with a constant height of 740mm. The packaging includes parts and assembly instructions for home assembly.
The project commenced in 2019 in London and was completed in 2021 in Serbia. While not publicly exhibited, the design research aimed to create a unique prototype for the evolving workspace, combining bespoke design with a fast assembly and disassembly process. The design's challenges included creating a large press for the tabletop and selecting the right veneered material, ultimately resulting in the successful realization of the Airy worktable.
