Eleftheria Deko's architectural lighting concept for the Benaki Museum Pavilion at the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel in Athens
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Eleftheria Deko's innovative architectural lighting concept has transformed the Benaki Museum Pavilion at the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel in Athens, inaugurated in June 2019. The pavilion, serving as the museum's shop and exhibition space, showcases a unique blend of Greek modern architecture from the 50s, inspired by the binaries of the day and night cycle. The lighting design, characterized by simplicity and minimalism, beautifully highlights the architectural features and the concept of the space, reflecting the interplay of light and shadow, inside and outside.
The lighting design at the Benaki Museum Pavilion stands out for its discreet yet impactful approach. The signature entrance iron door, doubling as exhibit cases, seamlessly integrates lighting as part of the structure. The interior lighting, achieved with adjustable spots in recessed tracks between the ceiling wooden beams, provides adaptability without compromising the overall aesthetics. The aluminum foam shelves, illuminated with cove lighting in cool white, exude a shimmering glow, further accentuated by tiny recessed track spotlights to highlight the artifacts.
The realization of this design involved the use of cutting-edge lighting technology from manufacturers such as Viabizzuno, Linea Light, and Lights On. The use of minimum-sized track systems and fixtures, LED strips for cove lighting, and custom-made small-scale fixtures for magnetic mounting on the exhibition cases of the pivoting iron door showcases the innovative approach to lighting design.
