Jo Jhunghan unveils Island, a premium glass inspired by Korean islands and crafted to elevate the soju drinking experience, blending tradition and innovation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jo Jhunghan's Island Glass is a testament to the fusion of tradition and innovation. Inspired by the designer's trip to Ulleung Island, the glass is a nod to the Korean soju culture, reimagining the conventional soju glass as an upside-down island floating in the sea, engraved with Korean language Hangul.
Crafted from unleaded crystal, the Island Glass boasts superior refraction and vibrant colors, setting it apart from traditional glassware. The unique design, with the shape of the glass mirroring the Korean islands, Dokdo and Ulleungdo, offers a distinctive drinking experience, with the island's name engraved at the bottom.
With dimensions of 57mm tall and 61mm in diameter, the glass holds approximately 50ml, with a recommended pour of 30 to 40ml, and weighing 105 grams. The design allows for a dynamic interaction, as the island's name becomes visible when the glass is tilted, adding an element of surprise to the drinking experience.
Jo Jhunghan's journey to create the Island Glass began in July 2017 in Seoul, South Korea, with the final design and molds completed in November 2019. The glass was met with overwhelming support, exceeding its funding target by over 2000% during the Wadiz launch campaign in November 2019.
The Island Glass has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2021, a testament to its exceptional design and impact on the world of drinkware and tableware.
