Shuyue Feng's Mechcircuit project is a revolutionary approach to prototyping, seamlessly integrating electronic circuits and mechanical structures. Traditionally, these two design aspects are developed separately, leading to suboptimal results. Mechcircuit addresses this challenge by enabling non-expert users to design and fabricate interactive prototypes with ease.
The innovative design allows users to achieve mechanical functions such as rotary and linear movements without traditional mechanical parts. By leveraging rubidium magnets, the mechanical structures are both interactive and easier to design and assemble than traditional methods. Additionally, the electronic circuitry simplifies the complex operations of wiring and soldering, using magnetism and laser-cut slots to connect components quickly and easily.
Utilizing 2mm acrylic sheets and conductive silver ink for the circuitry, Mechcircuit provides a user-friendly prototyping experience. The project, which began in July 2022 and concluded in December 2022 at the School of Software, Zhejiang University, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China, has garnered recognition, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2023.
Shuyue Feng's interdisciplinary approach to design and human-computer interaction has led to the development of Mechcircuit, offering a new paradigm for interactive prototyping. This innovative project is set to impact product design iterations for a wide audience, leveraging standard laser cutting technology for its implementation.
