Andy Wong's Wolo Hotel project, located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, reflects the city's history and culture in a bold, modern way, winning the prestigious A' Design Award.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Andy Wong's Wolo Hotel project, located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a contemporary reflection of the city's rich history and culture. Inspired by the city's DNA, the project incorporates elements that showcase the history, cultures, and stories of Kuala Lumpur in a bold and creative manner.
The most unique feature of the project is its reflection of Malaysian culture and Wolo brand values in a contemporary, creative, and bold way. The hotel's design incorporates Kuala Lumpur's "DNA" in various aspects, including the use of custom pewter in the reception counter and entrance grand handle, paying homage to the city's long and glorious history of pewter products.
The project, which started in December 2018 and finished in October 2019, faced the challenge of transforming Kuala Lumpur's "DNA" into the design. For example, the topography layered pattern of mining fields is incorporated into the steel corridor carpet, ceiling pendant lights, and hotel room mirrors, reflecting the city's long mining history. Additionally, the "Kuala Lumpur Wall" in the lobby, displaying the city's name meaning "muddy confluence," presented a challenging design and installation process.
Wong's Wolo Hotel project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020 in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism Design category. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
