Sepehr Mehrdadfar's Gis chair, a three-legged wooden marvel, takes inspiration from Persian aesthetics and is awarded the Silver A' Design Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sepehr Mehrdadfar's Gis is a three-legged wooden chair with bronze feet, meticulously carved from walnut logs, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. The chair's unique design draws inspiration from the graceful tumble of a woman's hair, as reflected in its name, "Gis," which means the same in Farsi. Despite its uncanny appearance, Gis is ergonomically designed, blending art and function seamlessly.
The chair, a part of the Konj-e-Hess collection, is a testament to Mehrdadfar's exploration of solid wood possibilities, blurring the lines between art and design. The project commenced in March 2019 and concluded in September 2019 in Tehran, Iran, where it was exhibited as part of the "Konj-e-Hess" exhibition.
Gis, with its sculptural presence, embodies Mehrdadfar's vision of creating objects that radiate a sense of place and aesthetics. The chair's design challenges were overcome to achieve a sculptural Persian aesthetic, marking a significant milestone in furniture design.
